Compared to store-bought cleaners, this natural recipe helps reduce endocrine disruptors associated with cancer, reproductive issues, and nervous system disorders. Hydrogen peroxide contains antiseptic properties while serving as a natural alternative to bleach. (1) Use it to protect against black mold and pair with baking soda to absorb tough odors from mildewy areas.
For a fresh scent, this recipe uses lemon essential oils as a natural antibacterial. (2) You can also use other scents like lavender or eucalyptus for a similar bright aroma. If you don’t have essential oils, simply use one tablespoon of lemon zest or add 10 drops of lemon juice instead.
To get started, combine the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide into a medium mixing bowl. Stir in the essential oil and gently pack the mixture into your tablespoon. Tap the tablespoon upside down into your palm to gently release. Tip: If it breaks apart easily, try adding an extra teaspoon of peroxide to moisten the mixture. Place onto a flat surface lined with parchment paper and spread each bomb two inches apart. Allow them to dry for at least eight hours, or until solid.
When ready to use, empty out the dishes from the dishwasher. Check to ensure all loose food particles or any lingering silverware is clear from all nooks and crannies. Place one bomb into the silverware caddy and close the door. Run the dishwasher on the highest setting and allow it do all the work for you!
