Dig into these mouthwatering Bacon-Wrapped Sweet Potatoes slathered in a tangy barbecue sauce!
If you love barbecue dishes, this sweet potato recipe is just for you! Without needing to fire up the grill, these oven-baked spuds come with a crisp candied outside and a soft tender inside. They’re the perfect side dish for grilled entrées or can even stand-alone as a filling meal.
Using all-natural ingredients, this recipe includes thick pasture-raised bacon to create a smoky, sweet flavor. Unlike thinner varieties, thick-cut bacon is essential for creating the wrap-around base that won’t shrink during the baking process.

The sweet potatoes are basted with barbecue sauce before and during the cooking process. This creates a baked-on coating that seals in a tangy, sweet flavor. A Paleo barbecue sauce contains natural sweeteners like maple syrup instead of high-fructose corn syrup. You can find many of these sauces at your local health food store or you can whip up a batch of your own bbq sauce in just five minutes.
To get started, wrap two strips of bacon around each sweet potato, overlapping slightly. Tip: Be sure to use sweet potatoes that aren’t too large or they will not cook at the same time as the bacon. Secure the ends of the bacon onto the sweet potatoes using toothpicks (this will help keep the bacon from unraveling as it cooks).
Next, place the sweet potatoes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the barbecue sauce onto the tops and sides of each sweet potato. Bake for 55-60 minutes, brushing the remaining barbecue sauce halfway through the cooking process. Then, remove from the oven and let it cool for five minutes before serving.
